Drill in the ATC
Drill is not only an important aid to discipline, but it also develops a sense of corporate pride, alertness, precision and concentration.
Being smart on parade is not just a sign of good discipline, but it is also a basic factor in a cadets' confidence, pride and self-discipline.
Drill involves cadets working together in a squad to perform many complex manoeuvres in complete
co-ordination with one another.
It builds upon techniques of team work and co-operation, and
above all it can be very enjoyable !
When cadets join 2469 (Exeter St. Thomas) Squadron, they are taught the basics of drill by other, more experienced cadets.
Once the basics have been mastered cadets continue to practice until they are capable of performing complex moves and squad routines.
Within Devon and Somerset Wing ATC, there is an annual drill competition, which is eagerly competed in by most squadrons. The winning squadron team goes on to represent the Wing at Regional level.
Amongst the squadron cadets there is always great competition to be chosen for the team, and to try to beat the rest !
