This
time round on "15 Minutes With..", I got to interview
Perri, the St Andrew's Player's choreographer. Perri is the youngest
member of the crew and Goldilocks and the 3 Bears will be her first
production as crew. Without further ado let's begin!
Webmaster:
"Ok, as you know we've got a new section on our website called
"15 Minutes With...", and today we're here with you, choreography,
so I'd just like to say thanks for taking time out of your schedule
to come and be interviewed."
Perri: "That's alright *smile*"
Webmaster:
"So when did you first join St Andrew's Players?"
Perri: "7 or 8 years ago... I think. I was
brought to the group by a friend of mine and I thought it would
be good because I'm interested in acting and stagework. I was scared
at first but everyone was friendly and so I fitted in eventually."
Webmaster:
"So can you remember your first part? "
Perri: "Yeah, I was scared. It was a chorus
speaking part, my first lines: "I know, THE VITAMIN SEA!"
in Sinbad the Sailor."
Webmaster:
"So what is choreography? Why is it important to Players?"
Perri: "Well I make up dances, fight scenes
and direct the people on stage during the dances and get them to...
dance. You've gotta make sure they're moving in the right direction
at the right time otherwise it'll look scattered and messy."
Webmaster:
"Ahh right, so how long have you been in your new position?"
Perri: "Only about a month and a half. I'm
still getting used to it."
Webmaster:
"So not that long then."
Perri: "No."
Webmaster:
"So what made you stop acting and start choreographing?"
Perri: "I was asked by the director (Jen)
if I wouldn't mind stepping down from acting and into the crew because
in the last panto I helped choreograph the snow ballet scene, plus
outside of Players I do dance and gymnastics."
Webmaster:
"So how long have you been dancing and doing gymnastics?"
Perri: "I've been doing gym for um... 9 months
and dancing for 1 year and 8 months... I think. It's about that.
"
Webmaster:
"So you haven't been dancing all that long to get the position
of choreographer then?"
Perri: "No, not really."
Webmaster:
"Cool. So if your position didn't exist, how would it affect
the pantomime?"
Perri: "Well, none of the ballet scenes would
take place and the fighting scenes would be thrown together by the
cast and it would look really unorganised, everyone would all be
scrabbling everywhere. With a choreographer, those scenes look nice
and... orderly."
Webmaster:
"So if you had a limitless budget, what scenes of yours would
you change and how would you change them? "
Perri: "Well "The Dance Of The Painted
Dolls" would be MUCH bigger, and I would involve more cast
members to show the audience how talented the cast really are, and
the "Dream Ballet" scene would be completely re-done,
everyone would be wearing gorgeous costumes and everyone would really
look the part."
Webmaster:
"Sounds good! So what's your favourite scene so far?"
Perri: "My favourite to choreograph? The dream
ballet will be good, except I haven't got any music for it yet.
Once I've found some it will be good anyway."
Webmaster:
"So do you find it difficult finding pieces of music to match
the mood of the scene?"
Perri: "Yes, but only where I try and keep
it original and fresh, something the audience haven't heard before.
It's also difficult trying to find something original that I can
make up a dance that looks good to, and then teach it to people
who have hardly any dance experience, especially trying to teach
them their cues!"
Webmaster:
"I know how you feel. So one final question, what do you have
to say to our millions of web viewers out there?"
Perri: "Millions? *gets a little nervous*
Uhm, come and watch the panto, it'll be great show and a fantastic
pantomime! "
Webmaster:
"Well thank you very much, it's been a pleasure!"
Perri: "You're welcome!"
