Download the scanned pages of the
Nelson Jennings Diaries for 1877 to 1888The pages were scanned at 300 dpi, black & white,
saved in *.pcx image format.These scanned pages where transcribed by Bertha (Jennings) Thomas, from hand written diaries by her father, Nelson Jennings.
[ To the unsuspecting: these diaries are not great, or even good entertainment literature. Most of the day's entries are notes about what Nelson did that day, and are very brief. To those people used to fascinating, introspective & dramatic diaries, you will be disappointed with these. They are most often boring.

Cannot locate any transcriptions, or diaries, for 1886 or 1887 - Cary Thomas
Pages for 1888 (9.23 MB uncompressed)
Cary was looking at some of the original diaries for 1888, and noticed that the typed pages DO NOT correspond to the hand written entries for 1888. Cary has not attempted to determine which year the typed pages are for, but apparently they are not for 1888, although all the typed pages are identified as 1888. There was apparently a transcriber error in identifying the correct year of these pages.

where b=Bertha transcriptions, p=page, nn=page sequence number;
typical *.pcx page file size is 200kIn Win95, Cary had problems opening with the default system Paint program found on the Start/Accessories/Paint menu. The Paint program would crash.
But Cary did succeed in opening the page files in the Imaging program that comes with the Win95 installation. The default menu location is Start/Accessories/Imaging.
If it is not installed, put the Win95 install CD in the CD-ROM drive. Click Start/Settings/Control Panel/Add\Remove Programs, click Windows Setup tab, highlight Accessories, click Details button, make sure Imaging item has a check mark, then proceed to install. If you get a "can't find/locate files" message, click Browse button and select folder D:\WIN95, where D: is your CD drive letter. (Adjust accordingly for Win98, or later versions)
For best viewing using Imaging...
