Dinners

Dinners

Dinners form a major part of the college calendar, they come in all shapes and sizes and for all occasions. No matter how formal any dinner is, they are always pretty chilled events, a great chance to make new friends and catch up with old ones'.

MCR Dinners are for 25 MCR students and usually one guest who tends to be a fellow from the college. They cost £12.50 and for that you get a top notch 3 course meal and plenty of wine and coffee. St. Anne's MCR dinners are renowned throughout the university, the food is excellent and the distinguished atmosphere of the upper dinning hall make them not to be missed. Before each dinner you will receive an email from the MCR President or Vice-President to which you reply if you want to go.

At Supervisors' Dinner each student is invited to bring their research supervisor to dinner at college and it is a great opportunity to get your supervisor out of the office and get to know them on a more informal level. Everyone is skeptical the first time, but these dinners really bring students and supervisors closer together.

Partners Dinner are where students are asked to bring along their partners or friends to give them the opportunity to enjoy the college atmosphere, meet your colleagues and come and have a look round.

Subject Family Events bring together students studying similar subjects for three twenty minute lectures given by members of college (graduate students, JRFs and Fellows). The talks are followed by a dinner and the evening provides an excellent opportunity to catch a glimpse of the research conducted in areas other than your own speciality.

Subject Family Dinner, Supervisor's Dinner and Partners Diner are free and you will receive details to sign up shortly before each event.

St. Anne's also put on Formal Halls. These are dinners put on by the college for undergraduates, postgraduates and fellows. The dress code is formal with academic gowns, so it's a great chance to dress to impress and get some use out of your subfusc gear that may not otherwise see the light of day after matriculation. Formal Halls take place on Thursdays of Weeks 4 and 8 and Fridays of Weeks 2 and 6 of each term. Tickets go on sale for the each Formal Hall on Tuesdays of Weeks 1, 3, 5 and 7 at 1215 hours in the Dining Hall. It is recommended that you buy early as tickets sell very quickly. Tickets cost £7.20 each, charged to your “BOD Card” and you are limited to being able to purchase no more than 4 tickets per person. It’s Bring Your Own wine (limited to one bottle per person)

There is a Dinning Hall in college which graduates are able to use. Meals are charged to your university card on your battels at the beginning of the next term, but if you are going to spend more than £100 in one term you are advised to visit the accounts department and give them a cheque to cover your expenses. The dinning hall is open for breakfast (8-9.30am), lunch (12.15–1:45pm) and dinner (6.15-7.30pm) Monday to Friday, and also for brunch (11am-1pm) at the weekend (note – only during term time weeks 0-9). Look here to find out what is on the menu.
